How Are Panoramic X-Rays Taken?
Camden Dental Care uses panoramic x-rays to:
- Examine the structure of the teeth to determine if orthodontics will be needed
- Check for signs of oral cancer
- Spot cavities
- Plan for surgical procedures, like dental implant placement
- Examine the jaw for signs of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)
- Monitor the progress of periodontal disease
- Check for growths around the mouth and face (like tumors, abscesses, or cysts)
Panoramic x-rays are captured using a sophisticated device that rotates around the patient's head, scanning the jaw from both sides and generating an image nearly instantly. Many patients find Panorex imaging more comfortable than other dental x-ray techniques, as there is no need to bite down or keep any part of the machine in the mouth. Once the digital scan is complete, Dr. Dhariwal will review the captured images and discuss the findings and which treatments, if any, may be needed.
